Passing Notes as a Kid

Who remembers passing notes in school when they were kids? I do, I do!!!

Yes, I was that kid! And let me tell you I was great at it. OK, not really… I got caught all the time. Also, I learned that even if you do not sign it with your real name the teacher will know it was you.

Well, today something similar happened at home. The 13 yr got caught red handed by her dad! Yep, she walked right into this argument…

So, it all started when we hollered for all the kids to go bed at their normal bedtime and she walks up to give dad a hug and kiss with her hand in her pocket. Dad asked, “Honey, what’s in your hand?” Her response sends me right back to middle school, “It’s just my notes for class.” Ya, right, NOT! We asked her about 10 times to hand it over and she wouldn’t hand it over. Oh my goodness, it took every ounce of will power not to burst out laughing because I knew exactly what it was. After she failed at convincing us that it was school stuff she handed it over and sure enough it was a note she had written to a boy… Oh ya, 13 yr old hormones are all over this note.

How do you handle this as a parent? I was inclined to be upset that she LIED and worked so hard at keeping this a secret but honestly, I was more amused at myself for not being mad. I remember being a teenage girl trying to find my way around a new school and making new friends. That age is tough to handle. It’s still not OK to lie to your parents.

I must say that I’m very proud at the hubs too for being so calm through this whole thing. This is his baby girl and she is growing up. And, let’s be honest, kids lie. Even the most honest good kids lie sometimes. No, it’s not OK, but it happens. It’s our job as parents to teach our kids that lying gets us in more trouble than its worth. Case in point, we were not angry that she was writing to a boy which is what she thought she would get in trouble for, we were angry that she tried so hard to hide it from us.  If she had just told us what was in her hand the conversation would have gone much easier on everyone. She instead lost her laptop for the night, all due to silly little details.

Some folks may think that we should just have let it go and not made a big deal about it. We on the other hand hope that this will instill values in her that will make her a better adult in the future. Seriously, I blame my parents for me feeling guilty about calling into work and lying to my boss that I’m sick, they are the reason I just don’t do that. And even when I am home sick I still end up working because I feel bad blowing off my responsibilities. Long story short, lying is bad. Don’t do it.

Don’t forget…Be kind to your kids, even when chaos erupts. You were once a kid too.

Sick Days

On days like today when I’m sitting on the couch with an upper respiratory infection and no sleep for three days it’s even more difficult. As you can see, I could not stay away. Call it motivation or determination or just plain stubbornness but here I am looking for ways to stay focused.

By the way, here is quick recipe for the chicken soup I just made to hopefully feel better quickly.

Easy Chicken Soup

Servings: 4

Time: prep 5 mins, cook 20 mins

Ingredients:

4 cups Chicken Broth

1 cup water

Pinch of salt

Pinch of garlic powder

Pinch of onion powder

3 large carrots, peel and chopped

3 celery stalks, chopped

1/2lbs. chicken breast

1 Tbl spoon olive oil

1 cup egg noodles

Directions: cut chicken into bite size pieces. Add olive oil and chicken to a medium soup pot and cook for about 5 mins or until no longer pink, make sure to stir occasionally so it doesn’t stick. Add chicken broth, water, carrots, celery, and salt. Cook for 10 mins then add noodles. Cook for another 5 mins or until noodles are tender. Serve.

Thank You For Your Service

Today I attended my daughters Veterans Day assembly where they ask veterans to come to the school to be honored by the community. As I was listening to her and the rest of the choir sing beautiful songs to thank the veterans for their service I realized one thing, we as Americans sometimes forget how lucky we are to live in a country that gives us the opportunity to be great people and to do great things.

Today I was reminded I am proud to be an American! There is no where else in the world I would rather live. This is my home. This is my country and I stand tall with my head held high and I will teach my kids to respect the flag and our leaders and our veterans regardless of what side of the aisle they are on. Today I thank the heroes that have served and have protected our beautiful country!

Thank you for your service!

Signs… Do you see them?

Signs…

Not like stop signs or street signs or billboard signs, but the kind that the universe throws at you when you are not paying attention. Sometimes in life you must look at all the chaos that is around you and find that one thing that moves you. That one moment in time that stands out from the rest. The one thing that you will learn from.  How many times have you looked up and realized something special happening around you? It’s amazing what you see when you embrace the chaos of life.

Sometimes the signs are simple and just about obvious. For example, waking up one morning at your lowest point, asking yourself if all the time and effort you are putting in is worth it. Frustrated with life in general and wishing everything would change. You finally muster up the strength to shower and get ready for work when your dog decides to not tell you he needs to go outside and does his business right outside the bathroom door. Well, when you open the door thinking that life cannot get any worse at this point, and it is still dark, and you don’t realize what the dog just did…  Yep, you guested it.  What do you do now? Cry and wish the world could pause for a bit so you can catch your breath or laugh at the irony of stepping in a pile of shit first thing I the morning. After I cried for a few mins, I couldn’t help but laugh at the whole situation and realized that was my sign.  And let’s face it, it was pretty hilarious trying to explain to my boss why I was late this time.

Life is chaotic… Learn from it. Embrace it. Live it. Love it.

Day 4

Finally its Friday!

Oh my. It’s 10:30pm and I finally get to sit down and write a post. Fridays you would think are easy. Last day of the week, everyone is burnt out at work trying to get home. A day to tie up loose ends before the start off the weekend. Not me! This girl has way too much going on!

At least I feel pretty productive today. I was able to secure furniture deliveries for Monday, which turns out is harder than you would think. The fireplace will be tuned up for the fall, sprinkler system will be winterized and we made it to the kids doctors appointment on time. Now to attempt to watch a movie. Tonight’s pick is The Intern. So far it’s a cute movie.

All in all it was a great day. Tomorrow is going to be just as crazy as most of my days. I’m sure the kids will want fresh waffles in the morning with the new waffle maker I just got from Amazon. Got too love Amazon! Really, with as crazy as my life is, it is always a good idea to order online so that I don’t have to make another stop on my way home from work… Shout out to my better half John for ordering it for me. XOXOXO

Stay focused. It’s all worth it in the end.

Day 3

Thursday chaos? Yes please!

As I sit at work running more data numbers for my engineering day job and listening to one of my most favorite motivational people on YouTube, I think to myself… Yes I grew up in Chicago. Yes my parents were factory workers. Yes, I made it out of the inner-city. Was it hard work? Absolutely! Part of the reason my life is chaotic is because I refuse to sit around waiting for life to happen and I go out and make life happen! Thanks for the pep talk Gary Vaynerchuk!

It would be easy enough for me to be OK with where I was 10 years ago in my career but I was bored. I wanted more. Today, my life is much different than it was back then. Hell, it’s much different than it was 2 years ago. The reason for that I think is because I’m hungry for success, oh and I get bored easily! Every couple of years I choose to move either within my company or most recently I completely changed companies. Talk about utter chaos in my life… New job, new house, and a new family. I would not change it for the world. My family is my motivation!

I look at moving up the career ladder the same way most people move furniture around when the room needs a new look on a budget. I like what I do but it gets boring doing the same thing day in and day out. Change is good, chaos is fun!

Learning new things is fun for me. Not necessarily school in particular but in general, I love to learn. Wherever I can find it, I will take it. Always look for ways to improve yourself and life will fall into place. Never give up!!

Day 2

Chaotic is the name of the game. Making it work in our favor is all we can do.

After getting up extra early to get the kids ready and to the bus stop, going to work for 9 hours, paying some bills, checking on my parents, picking up groceries, clipping coupons, and spending time with the family at dinner, I finally got the chance to sit down and write this post. Some days it’s harder than others to get everything accomplished. The universe does a great job at keeping me on track most of the time so again I am grateful.

Now, let’s get into why I started a website.

Currently I am a full-time Supply Chain Engineer at a transportation company. The people there are super awesome, helpful, and positive. I am blessed to be able to work at a place that has so much great energy. I really do enjoy being in the office, except for one minor detail… Ever since I was a little girl I have always been intrigued with the notion of being a business owner. This website is my next big step. Cant wait to see where it takes me!

Remember to keep going no matter how chaotic life gets! It is the only way you can get to where you are destined to be.

Day 1

Welcome to my very first website. I’m thrilled that you stopped by. My name is Eza and I am a working mom that is looking to see what the internet can do for me. My life is basically chaotic from the time I get up to the time I put the kids to bed. Yes its crazy, but its a fun crazy. There is no use going through life complaining about everything that falls out of place so I might as well embrace it. There is too much to be thankful for no matter how hard it gets.
